2013 Scholarship of Application

Cathy Yungmann, Associate Professor of Communication at Cabrini College has been named the 2013 Small Programs Interest Group (SPIG) Scholarship of Application (SOA) Winner for her entry titled “A Prototype for Global Student Journalism: Covering Conflict Without Going There.”

Honorable Mention for the 2013 SOA Competition goes to Lisa Phillips, Assistant Professor of Journalism at The State University of New York at New Paltz. Her entry was titled “Faces of the Flood: A Multimedia, Entrepreneurial Approach to the Scholarship of Application.”

2013 Ginger Rudeseal Carter Miller Teacher of the Year

The Small Programs Interest Group renamed its Teacher of the Year Award to honor former SPIG president and long-time member, Ginger Rudeseal Carter Miller. The award will be presented for the first time this year on Saturday, Aug. 10, at noon by Miller herself during the group’s annual luncheon held in conjunction with the AEJMC convention in Washington, D.C. Please see the press release for details.

Dr. Mary “Mitzi” Lewis, assistant professor at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, was named Teacher of the Year. Please see the press release for details.
