[AEJMC Newspaper Division list] Division name change call for comments

As was discussed and decided at the division meeting in August, I have
sent the following e-mail to the AEJMC Council of Divisions.

As a reminder, the name change would not take place until after all
members were contacted for their preference. This merely reflects the
first step in that process, which is to inform all other divisions of
our plans for this.

Colleagues,

At the Newspaper Division meeting in Denver, the members present
authorized me to begin the process of a possible name change for our
division. Specifically, the members authorized a vote among all
division members on whether to keep our name or to change it to
"Newspaper & Online News Division."

Before we initiate this process, of course, I was advised to contact
all division chairs and inform them of our plans, to get your input. It
is not our intent to step on any toes with this name change. We are
simply trying to determine whether our current division name adequately
encompasses our division's mission. We have reached this point after
about two years of discussion within the division.

Some of you might want to inform your members of this proposal, so we
will allow adequate time for input before surveying our members.
Therefore, I will set a deadline of Nov. 8 (one month from today) to
hear any concerns. If more time is needed, I will gladly extend.

If you would like to contact me directly, realize that replies to this
e-mail will be sent to the listserv, so you will need to put my e-mail
in the "to". Of course, some of you might wish your comments to be
addressed to CoD. All responses are welcome. I look forward to hearing
back from you, and if you have any questions, I am glad to answer
those.
