Newspapers' print circulation, advertising lineage, revenues and profits may all be down. But entries to the Newspaper Division's research competition are WAY up this year, about 20 percent more than last year. This is creating a need for more referees to judge the competition. We had recruited what we thought was a good number of judges, but the extra submissions have created a need for more.
If you have not entered a paper in the competition, your participation as a judge would be greatly appreciated. Judging involves downloading certain assigned papers -- we're hoping to keep it to four per person -- from the electronic submission Web site (All Academic), then going back into the site to rate them on a number of criteria.
Junior faculty should especially note that judging papers is a win-win that both helps the division and helps you. It is a vital service/scholarship activity and anyone building a tenure or promotion case should avail themselves of if they have never done it before.
If you are interested in being a judge please take the following steps:
(1) Contact Research Competition co-chair John Carvalho to volunteer. He may be reached at carvajp [at] auburn.edu; (replacing [at] with the @ symbol, of course)
(2) Register an account with the All Academic online submission site. To do this, go to:
http://convention3.allacademic.com/one/aejmc/aejmc09/index.php
and look under "Login Instructions" for information about registering. (If you already have registered because you have submitted a paper to another unit, then you don't need to create a second account. John and research co-chair Chris Roberts will be able to find you in the system. Just let John know you'd like some papers assigned to you.
Many Thanks,
Newspaper Division
