[AEJMC Newspaper Division list] New name fornewspaper division: don't do it!

I've been traveling as well and agree with Phil, Mary Alice, Rama, etc. Keep the name. Newspapers aren't "dead" yet, nor are they necessarily dying. They ARE being forced to adapt to a changed marketplace, new technological challenges, the loss of classified advertising, and an increasingly polarized and attention-challenged (perhaps) audience. But it's too early to write the tombstone for newspapers.
In the English language we link partial content (news) with a medium (paper). Is this what bothers some people? But I don't consider the term "online newspaper" an oxymoron.
And calling the division something like "news media" will raise turf issues with some of our colleagues elsewhere, I'm sure.

Hi Del,
I agree with you 100%. If Newspaper changes, it runs the risk of being bundled in with all the other divisions that deal with some part of the mission - and some part of the coverage or regulation of news. In other words, it loses its definition.
Hope all is well with you.
Mary Alice
