I agree with Phil, Paul, Rama and others to leave the name as it is. "Newspaper" is more than "news on paper." It refers to a source of news that provides more immediacy and typically more local news than magazines but more depth than television--both of which also now are online.
I think a subtitle might address some of the other concerns, and I do think this discussion is healthy. I also appreciate the variety of perspectives--which also serve to show that newspapers are far from dead.

I agree with Phil. I remember when the Newspaper Division was created. It
was because some folks looked around and said how could an organization of
journalism and mass communication educators exist without a newspaper
division when so many other aspects of our teaching areas were represented
by their own divisions. The need still exists. In spite of all that is
going on in the world of communication and the world of newspapers, it seems
to me that the Newspaper Division should exist as long as newspapers exist
in whatever form.
