Boston was the the birthplace of both America's first newspaper, lasting for one issue, and America's first continuing newspaper -- and at the moment it is still a two-dailies city -- a fine setting to discuss the challenges facing newspaper publishing today.

Results: A pre-conference Aug. 4 session on "The Future of Editing," as well as timely panels on...

  • emerging business models
  • non-profit news organizations
  • covering economics
  • covering public health
  • teaching multimedia & convergence
  • getting students to report outside their comfort zones

... and much more. For details, see the spring and summer 2009 editions of Leadtime.

THE NAME

Does "Newspaper" still describe what the division is about? Would "newsmedia" (as INMA now uses) or another description be better? Or does "newspaper" continue to fit the division as well as it fits NAA? Or shall we trim it to "news" like ASNE.

See Susan Keith's call for a discussion in Leadtime. For background, see her article in the March issue, as well as the AEJMC Strategic Plan documents at the Members Forum. For discussion, use the e-mail list.
