Mass Communication and Society Submission Info

Submissions

Submitted papers should be no longer than 9000 words and 30 pages including references, tables, and figures. Submissions are accepted through the Scholar One electronic submissions system. Go to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/mcas and follow the log in and registration process. Then follow the procedures for uploading your manuscript to the system. If you need to contact the editor about problems with this submission process, communicate with: Dr. Stephen D. Perry, Professor of Communication, Campus Box 4480, Illinois State University, Normal, IL 61790-4480, (309) 438-7977, sdperry@ilstu.edu.

Only original manuscripts that are not under review for any other publication in whole or in part should be submitted to Mass Communication and Society. The simultaneous submission of a manuscript is inappropriate and violates ethical guidelines for professional academic research. All scientific research should follow appropriate ethical procedures such as those listed in the full AEJMC Code of Ethics.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts should be prepared according to the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). Double space all material, including title page, abstract, text, quotations, acknowledgments, references, appendices, tables, figure captions, and footnotes. Footnotes should be kept to a minimum. No title page is needed since identification and contact information are entered separately in the system. Do not include author name, institution, or other identifying information anywhere in the document you upload. The first page should include the manuscript title, an abstract of 100 to 150 words, and a list of key words for use in indexing. All figures must be camera ready.

Peer Review

Permissions

Authors are responsible for the content of their work and for obtaining permission from copyright owners to use a lengthy quotation (500 words or more) or to reprint or adapt a table or figure published elsewhere. Authors should write to original author(s) and publisher of such material to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages for use in the article and in future editions. Provide copies of all permissions and credit lines obtained.

Production Notes

After a manuscript is accepted for publication, the author is asked to provide a computer disk containing the manuscript file. Files are copyedited and typeset into page proofs. Authors read proofs to correct errors and answer editor's queries.
