National
Conference Programming
While all AEJMC divisions, commissions, and interest
groups encourage graduate student participation and
attendance at national conference events, each year GEIG
sponsors or co-sponsors roughly six panels on topics
specifically of interest to graduate students. In
addition, GEIG holds an annual competitive, refereed
graduate student research paper
session, including the $100 Guido H. Stempel III Top
Paper Award. The national conference provides great
opportunities to get involved in GEIG, whether by
meeting other graduate students at our social, or
becoming actively involved by attending our business
meeting.
Reduced
Conference Room Rates & Registration
For the past several years, GEIG has helped provide a
platform for negotiating low room rates for graduate
students attending the national convention. In some
instances graduate students who are lead authors of
student papers at the national AEJMC conference may have
their conference registration fees waived by sponsoring
divisions and interest groups.
Mid-Year
Graduate Research Conference
During the late winter or early spring, GEIG holds its
own research conference at a co-sponsoring university --
the most recent was in February 2005 at Kennesaw State
University. Each year this conference provides an
excellent opportunity for students to present their
research and receive constructive feedback from faculty
discussants. Students may also participate in roundtable
discussions about publishing, job-hunting and other
career-related issues.
GEIG
Communications: Newsletter, Homepage & Listserv
During the year, GEIG publishes a newsletter that keeps
members up-to-date on its projects, conferences and
concerns, often including calls for papers that may be
of interest to graduate students. GEIG also maintains an
unmoderated listserv, which members can use to
communicate with each other.

Surveys
In order to find out greater details on the goals of our
membership and issues of student funding and education,
GEIG has administered and compiled surveys. By gathering
such information, we hope to better serve your needs and
become a geater voice for students within AEJMC.
Involvement,
Recognition & Networking
Your involvement in AEJMc enables you to build a
national network of contacts and friends in your field
of research and teaching while adding professional
service activities to your C.V. Because we are
student-run, and our conference sessions and other
activities are designed for student participation, GEIG
provides a solid in-road for you to gain expereience
within AEJMC. Every year we have a number of on going
projects that can use some additional assistance. We
welcome your participation and encourage your
suggestions and ideas.
